The Experience
How the Evening Unfolds
Arrive at the meeting point on the Mount Vernon square as the sun begins to set. Your guide -- in period costume and carrying a lantern -- will greet the group, set the scene, and lead you into the streets.
At each stop along the route, you'll meet a character from Mount Vernon's past. These aren't recordings or plaques -- they're live performances by Mount Vernon Players actors who bring each story to life right in front of you, on the very ground where it happened.
Between stops, your guide fills in the history -- the real events, the local legends, and the unexplained occurrences that still get whispered about in Knox County.

The Square

What to Bring
Comfortable walking shoes -- the tour covers about three-quarters of a mile on mostly flat sidewalks.
Dress for the weather. We walk rain or shine (see our FAQ for weather cancellation policy).
A camera or phone if you want to try capturing something... unexpected.
Accessibility
The tour route follows public sidewalks and is wheelchair and stroller accessible. Some stops may have uneven surfaces -- your guide will point these out.
